GTA 5 Modders Reportedly Trying To Make Switch And Android Ports

A group of modders are reportedly trying to get Grand Theft Auto 5 running on Switch, Linux, and Android using the source code leaked late last year.

Fansite GTA Focal reported on the modders’ efforts and posted a loading screen clip on Twitter/X on March 28. The video shows a regular GTA 5 loading screen that is occasionally interrupted by Switch UI messages reporting errors. Alongside the video is a screenshot of a loading screen showing an Android error message. Since GTA 5 was originally built to run on the Xbox 360/PS3, the Switch is presumably more than powerful enough to run a build of it, but getting the game compatible with new hardware is still plenty of work.

GTA 5’s source code was leaked in December 2023, months after Rockstar suffered a major hack. The source code’s new accessibility makes previously impossible or difficult mods, such as full on game ports, much easier.

As for GTA 6 news, a recent report claimed that Rockstar planned a Fall 2025 release for GTA 6, but that it could slip to 2026. Shortly thereafter, a new report said that the game was still on schedule for a 2025 release. Jack Black asked in a recent interview why there haven’t been film versions of Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption.
