Superman: Legacy Finds Its Man Of Steel In David Corenswet

Donning Clark Kent’s glasses and the Man of Steel’s cape will be David Corenswet. The Politician and Pearl actor has landed the lead role in Superman: Legacy.

But he’s not the only big casting announcement. The Hollywood Reporter says The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan will portray Lois Lane. On Twitter, Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn confirmed these new additions to the next phase of DC Studios, which he’s overseeing with Peter Safran.

Corenswet and Brosnahan beat out a collection of other actors and actresses to land the iconic roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Superman: Legacy screen tests reportedly took place earlier this month, with other thespians trying out for the parts including Nicholas Hoult (Renfield, Mad Max: Fury Road), Tom Brittney (Greyhound), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton).

In April, Gunn ruled out Chris Pratt for the role of Superman while also discussing what he was looking for in the character. He said at the time to Variety that his Man of Steel has “gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Gunn will direct Superman: Legacy, which will kick off a new era for DC Studios called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The filmmaker has quite the superhero pedigree, previously helming the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy along with Suicide Squad.

Superman: Legacy is planned to premiere July 11, 2025.
