Cyberpunk 2077 And Witcher Mobile Games Could Come In The Future, CD Projekt Says

Mobile games based on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher could come in the future, but they wouldn’t be developed by CD Projekt.

As part of a Q&A session during CD Projekt’s recent 2023 Fiscal Year earnings call (via Video Games Chronicle), it was asked if the studio had considered licensing its IP to third-party developers to make games for mobile and whether such a deal would be a one time licensing fee or a profit-sharing agreement between the two studios. According to CD Projekt CEO Michał Nowakowski, the answer to the first question is yes, though they have nothing to announce on that front “just yet.”

“The answer is pretty simple here,” Nowakowski said. “The answer is yes, we are considering such a move. In fact, we were pursuing, through conversations, opportunities like that. We have nothing to announce just yet, but when the time comes, we would.”

Nowakowski went on to say that they would not go into specifics for any kind of business deal and that there “is nothing in place that we’re talking about.” There is no “predesigned business model,” he said, and that it would share more information about any such deal “when the time comes.”

Though Cyberpunk 2077 has not yet received a mobile game, The Witcher has. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game received mobile ports, though support for the title ended in October 2023. Another Witcher mobile game, the Pokémon Go-inspired The Witcher: Monster Slayer, released in July 2021 but shut down nearly two years later in 2023.

CD Projekt is currently working on The Witcher 4, with full production slated to begin this year on what will be the first game in what is planned to be a new Witcher trilogy. More than 400 people are working on the next entry in the critically acclaimed RPG series, roughly two-third of the studio, according to Nowakowski. A small number of developers are still providing support for Cyberpunk 2077, while around 47 are working on its follow-up, currently codenamed Project Orion.
