Kirsten Dunst Hasn’t Seen Any New Spider-Man Or Marvel Movies

Over two decades ago, Kirsten Dunst co-starred opposite Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man before reprising her role as Mary Jane Watson in the two subsequent sequels. Despite earning a place in comic book cinema history with that trilogy, Dunst recently revealed that she hasn’t seen any of the Spider-Man movies that came after her run, or even any of the Marvel Studios films.

“It’s just not my thing,” explained Dunst during an interview with Variety. “But I did see Paw Patrol,” added Dunst, as she offered the interviewer “a classic, deflating, Coppola-heroine eye roll.”

Regardless, Dunst recently shared her interest in coming back for not only another Spider-Man movie, but any superhero movie for one simple reason: “Because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.”

Maguire and his Spider-Man successor, Andrew Garfield, were both invited back to appear alongside Tom Holland in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although Dunst’s Mary Jane is mentioned in the film, Dunst says that she wasn’t asked to appear. But she is up for reprising her role opposite Maguire’s Peter Parker if the opportunity arises again.

“It would be funny to be like, OK, let’s take Tobey (Maguire) and I and do it in a weird indie way where it’s like a different kind of superhero film,” said Dunst. “Like how they did that movie Chronicle. It could be cool.”

Marvel and Sony haven’t announced when the next MCU Spider-Man movie will be released. But Sony will continue its Spider-Man Universe films later this year with Kraven the Hunter on August 30 and Venom: The Last Dance on October 25.
