Starfield Sets An Impressive Game Pass Record

Starfield continues to make waves for Bethesda and the Xbox brand as a whole. During its fiscal year 2024 Q1 earnings call, Microsoft announced that Starfield was responsible for the largest single-day subscription figure for Xbox Game Pass in the service’s history.

The company’s complete financial results showed growth in multiple key areas, with a reported 13% increase in Xbox content and services including Game Pass, though hardware sales did take a slight 7% dive. Despite this, overall revenue for the Xbox gaming brand was up a total of 9% throughout the third quarter of the year.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella specifically called out Starfield when speaking about Xbox Game Pass, as he credits the game for the spike in subscribers. Specifically, Nadella said, “on [Starfield’s] launch, [Microsoft] set a record for the most Game Pass subscriptions added on a single day ever.”

Starfield launched in early September for Xbox consoles, PC, and the cloud via Xbox Game Pass. Despite being included in the subscription, the game was the best-selling title during the month of September, as it beat out notable titles including Mortal Kombat 1 and EA Sports FC 24.

This call marks the last fiscal report before Activision Blizzard joins the portfolio. Earlier this month, Microsoft closed the $69 billion acquisition of the Call Of Duty publisher after a two-year legal and regulatory battle.
