A recent report suggested that Marvel might be looking to get Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) to come back for another Avengers film. Johansson has now responded to this report, saying Black Widow is dead and is unlikely to come back.
“Is it like a zombie film? I think it was the end. She passed,” Johansson told Today of Black Widow’s death in Avengers: Endgame. “It would be a miracle. It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel.”
But Johansson is not closing the door entirely on potentially returning to the Marvel universe someday. “But, who knows?” she said.
Variety’s report that broke the news about Downey Jr. and Johansson reportedly coming back said Marvel “hasn’t yet committed to the idea.” In April this year, Johansson said she was “done” with Marvel. She added that the original Avengers film felt like a “sausage party” given how many more men there were than women.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige already responded to the report, saying, “I’ve literally not even seen that; is that a new rumor?”
The newest Marvel movie is The Marvels, which released on November 10 and had the slowest start at the box office in Marvel history. In 2024, Marvel is releasing just one film–Deadpool 3.
While Johansson might not be coming back as Black Widow anytime soon, she is producing a new Marvel project with Feige. However, this has yet to be officially announced.
