Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has responded to the rumor that Taylor Swift may appear in the superhero movie as the character Dazzler. Reporter Josh Horowitz asked Levy on the Happy Sad Confused podcast if the name Dazzler has escaped anyone’s lips when he’s been in a room with Swift.
Levy wouldn’t comment directly, saying he didn’t want to contribute to potential misinformation. But he did say, “It sure escapes the lips of social media every day.” He added that Swift playing Dazzler “sounds like a great idea.”
Commenting generally about rumors regarding cameos in Deadpool 3, Levy said, “I love the proliferation of casting rumors around my movie. There are so many that it’s impossible to know what’s real and what’s made up.”
Succession star Matthew Macfadyen and The Crown’s Emma Corrin have cameos in Deadpool 3, but that’s the extent of what we know so far about cameos in the film. Levy said it hasn’t been hard to get stars to agree to appear in Deadpool 3.
“What blew my mind also was how easy some of those cameos have been. People love Deadpool. People love Ryan. Thankfully, people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working,” he said.
Levy, Reynolds, and Swift attended the Chiefs-Jets NFL game earlier this month, which contributed to the speculation that Swift might have some part to play in Deadpool 3. This is baseless speculation, though. All three are friends; and going to sporting events together is what friends do. But Swift appearing in Deadpool 3 would be a pretty fun cameo in any event.
Deadpool 3 began filming earlier this year but paused production amid Hollywood strikes. The WGA ended its strike in September but the SAG-AFTRA union remains on strike, meaning Deadpool 3 is not yet back in production. The film is set for release in May 2024, but whether or not this date changes due to the production delays remains to be seen.
In addition to Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman appears in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine. Jackman’s Wolverine character died in the movie Logan, but anything is possible in Hollywood.
