Lies of P director Ji Won Choi has confirmed that a sequel is in development and has also provided a quick tease of the upcoming DLC for the Souls-like game. “Our highest priority is developing the DLC and working on our sequel,” Choi said in a video update for the game, which has so far passed one million sales and is also available through Xbox Game Pass. “The dev team is putting in significant effort, brainstorming and exploring different aspects of the project.”
For the DLC, Choi teased it with images of P exploring a seemingly derelict ship. “I can promise you one thing,” Choi said. “What I just showed you scratches merely the tip of an iceberg.”
Beyond the plans for Lies of P, the first game will receive a new patch later this month that will further tweak the Weapon Assemble system. Neowiz will also make the game more approachable in its opening stages with boosted base stats, extra Quartz materials to upgrade the P-Organ from Polendai’s shop, and the Rising Dodge move will become a default ability available from the start. A cosmetic tweak will allow glasses and hats to be worn separately and Choi said that the game’s soundtrack will be released at a later date.
As for where the Lies of P sequel could go next, the original game ends on a wild note. If you want to avoid spoilers, you can stop reading now.
For anyone who has completed the game–or caught a YouTube video of its ending–you’ll know that Neowhiz hints at Lies of P traveling to another beloved fictional property that has entered the public domain. In the mid-credit sequences, a familiar pair of ruby-red shoes can be seen, strongly hinting at P traveling to meet the Wizard of Oz. Under Neowiz’s direction, that’s great material for a sequel right there as between flying monkeys, wicked witches, and a tin man who probably wants to oil his rusty joints with blood, there’s plenty of room to put a grim spin on L. Frank Baum’s fantasy series.
Of course, we’ve got some other ideas for Lies of P 2, and we hope Neowiz sees this. Be real: You’d love to see P locked in boss fights with Ebenezer Scrooge, Mr. Toad, and Dr. Doolittle, wouldn’t you?
